line-height: 19.8px; font: 13.0px Arial; color: #555555; -webkit-text-stroke: #555555} span.s1 {font-kerning: none} --><\/style>\n<p>I&#8217;ve gotten to know\u00a0people connected to this unique neighborhood and they\u00a0give me updates on changes taking place there, some of which\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/metro\/regionals\/north\/2017\/03\/30\/wynn-casino-rises-nearby-neighborhood-faces-demolition\/6neLAa03dOIEjYjENauYWM\/story.html\">I documented in this front page Boston Globe article on March, 31, 2017<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">By reviewing city records and corporate filings I was able to confirm that Wynn is buying up properties in a 3-block area across the street from his planned casino and demolishing them to make way for new development.<\/p>\n<p><center>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/center><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">A Documentary Film About Change<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cDown the Lynde,\u201d is a documentary film about the history of the Lynde (pronounced, &#8220;line&#8221;) neighborhood which changed from farmlands to industry in the late 19th and early 20th century and is now poised for drastic change again.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_162\" style=\"width: 394px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePremiere1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-162\" class=\" wp-image-162\" src=\"http:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePremiere1-640x493.jpg\" alt=\"Audience members sitting, waiting for the movie to start.\" width=\"384\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePremiere1-640x493.jpg 640w, https:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePremiere1-780x601.jpg 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-162\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The screening room at the Parlin Library was packed during the premiere on Monday, May 12, 2014.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Plans to build a $2.4 billion casino in the neighborhood <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/boston\/blog\/bottom_line\/2014\/09\/gaming-commission-picks-wynn-for-boston-area.html?page=all\">were approved in September, 2014<\/a> but even before that, the city of Everett had been working on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofeverett.com\/Everett_files\/commdevelop\/120918%20LowerBroadwayPresentationFinal_Sept18.pdf\">an urban renewal plan <\/a>for the area.<\/p>\n<p>The neighborhood contains a small residential neighborhood in the heart of what once was a booming industrial center.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePosterXX.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-200\" src=\"http:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePosterXX-494x640.jpg\" alt=\"LyndePosterXX\" width=\"296\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePosterXX-494x640.jpg 494w, https:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePosterXX-602x780.jpg 602w, https:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/LyndePosterXX.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/a> Today it is a hodgepodge of old factory buildings, single-family-, two-family-, three-family-homes, luxury condos, fast food establishments, auto shops, junk yards, produce warehouses and huge oil and gas storage tanks.<\/p>\n<p>Most call the neighborhood, \u201cThe Lynde\u201d. More recently it\u2019s been called \u201cLower Broadway,\u201d particularly by people interested in marketing the location to young professionals.\u00a0Change is coming: at lightning speed now that Steve Wynn&#8217;s plans to build a casino on a polluted site, where a Monsanto chemical factory was once located, were approved.<\/p>\n<p>This documentary premiered on Monday, May 12, 2014 to a packed screening room at the Parlin Memorial Library in Everett, Mass. At its second screening on June 11, 2014, a standing-room-only crowd of nearly 100 watched the 68-minute movie at the Malden Public Library. Several of those who were interviewed in the documentary attended the screenings as did many former and current residents of the neighborhood. Reactions were extremely positive, a testament to the friendly nature of Everett residents.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this documentary film \u2014 my thesis project for a master\u2019s program at Northeastern University \u2014 is to capture this unique moment in time, the turning point for a neighborhood and its people: to document their hopes and dreams for this place and to hopefully at the same time capture a universal truth: all things change.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><center>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/center><a href=\"http:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/dvdpic.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/everettneighborhood.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/dvdpic.jpg\" alt=\"dvdpic\" width=\"203\" height=\"192\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">DVDs Available<\/h3>\n<p><em>&#8220;Down the Lynde&#8221; has been shown on public access TV stations in Boston, Somerville, Everett and Malden. The full-length DVD of &#8220;Down the Lynde&#8221; is now available and on loan from the Everett Public Library and Malden Public Library.
